remote possibilities
a live web performance created by slowdanger, Robert Zacharias and Kevin Deland
What happens when the theaters are all empty? When the ghost light is off? When the audience cannot be in the seats? Where does the spirit of the dance, theater, and performance go when it cannot exist with the audience? Online…?
Through the guidance of your digital narrator, the mask, you will be taken through stages of this interactive experience to conjure a dormant spirit.
Through your anonymous interaction and engagement within this platform we question:
Who and how do we perform ourselves through these digital interfaces?
How do we acknowledge the failures of technology to supplement the ancient forms of communal gathering and the ephemerality of theatrical experience?
THIS IS
remote possibilities
Participants will use their webcams to interact with visual modules, unlocking a new experience one module at a time. Eventually, all portals will be passed through and audiences will enter a live-streamed performance by slowdanger.
Through collaboration with Robert Zacharias and Kevin DeLand, these interactive modules will allow audiences to use their own motion to reveal aspects of the experience. These include triggering sound effects or manipulating a digital mask.
This experience will use webcams to track participants' faces to use images and icons on the screen that correspond with their facial movement. Audience members will use facial mapping as well to relate to others in real time.
This facial tracking and mapping through the webcam is designed to render or represent oneself as an abstract digital being.
